Agrovista Winter Technical Seminar

Flying in the clouds!

Agrovista look set to fly as their new information services for growers were outlined at February’s Winter Technical Seminars.  Developd by the Plant Systems part of the company, the obvious advantage for fruit growers is the way in which the new services have brought many aspects of technology together onto one platform under the Axis brand (Agrovista Exchange and Information System).

Lewis McKerrow outlined the key elements of the approach adopted.  The facility uses Cloud-based systems and a real-time data hub to host and exchange information and data, allowing growers to access the system from desktop computers, laptops, and portable devices such as tablets or even smart phones.  It allows agronomy and precision-farming data to be uploaded and shared in real time with advisers, agronomists, operators and contractors, giving growing businesses true flexibility and efficiency.

With Axis, users have instant access to crop management information to help make informed, timely decisions that facilitate efficient, cost-effective farming practices from any device connected to the internet, anywhere.  As part of the system, Agrovista has worked closely with Muddy Boots Software to integrate the Greenlight Grower Management (GLGM) system to ensure a seamless flow of information between the key people involved in a modern agricultural business.  Growers are able to add cropping information into GLGM which will immediately synchronise with the agronomist to improve efficient management and cut down on the double entry of data.

Cropping plans and field cropping can change very quickly and this system allows changes to be passed between users at the click of a button.  Axis will also provide growers with valuable data such as technical and trials information, detailed weather reports and account updates.  Greenlight Grower Management integrates seamlessly into Axis to provide an electronic library of new and past recommendations plus cropping information, nutrition and agronomy reports.  The higher level option will give integrated field mapping solutions a visual, intuitive way of using available data.  The Axis mapping package is a powerful tool for growers using precision farming at any level and will be continually developed.

Axis is now available and is free to register via the company’s website.  There will be three package options:

  • Axis info – free package, including view-only access to Greenlight Grower Management, three-day weather forecasts, product labels and data sheets, basic MapIT Pro Google mapping system, weekly fertiliser updated, live grain market feed, variety selection tool, key technical documents, and compliance information including greening calculator.
  • Axis Field Pro – As the Axis info option, plus Greenligh Grower Management and grower app, seven-day detailed weather including spray window wind chart, 1GB file storage.  Available summer 2015.
  • Axis MapIT Pro – As the Axis info, plus Axis mapping, including yield mapping, sensor mapping, soil mapping, zone maps and variable rate planning.  Import and export of many PF data types.  Available summer 2015.
Lewis McKerrow pointed out that the system had also been designed to handle robotics technology, more sensor technology, machine automation data and even unmanned aerial vehicle (drones) as they become available.

Weather stations and pest and disease prediction are currently key tools for fruit growers and Alex Radu outlined the upgrades to the RimPro programme which, for 2015, includes a new Nectria canker model, and a new Fireblight model will be available in the near future.
